Both pages never end to load here. Maybe there is some image or counter or something included that's served by a slower server and the result is not pretty, with the hourglass cursor.

Another little detail is the width. I'm browsing at 1024 with the laptop. The horizontal scroll bars appear for both pages (main and Delphi) though it's possible to prevent for the Delphi page reducing the font size.

The image of "breaking news" in the main page doesn't show.

I like the Delphi page. But the main page seems cluttered and not too beautiful.

I love the new website, it has more info, looks fresh and well designed.
Speaking of web design, do you think Delphi will support Silverlight technology?
I believe if Delphi takes that step and support Silverlight it will
gain a new market share, new users and show that it welling to
evolve.

I think Silverlight is a very important new technology and Delphi
should seriously consider supporting it

It is much better, but you guys really need a hire a professional for the graphics. They look amateurish. Check out your main screenshot:

http://www.codegear.com/article/34204/images/34204/02000003.jpg

It is full of artifacts. Mostly caused by the fact that it is a low quality JPEG. Application screenshots need to be lossless png these days. Plus most screenshots on the features pages are made on Windows XP. If you want Delphi to look like modern tool make your screenshots on Vista.

Excellent initiative, especially the Drill Down feature.

I tried it but at present it does not seem to drill down very far, in fact it seems quite flat.

VCL Components for example is flat and I was expecting to be able to drill down from a group to a component to aspects of that component etc.

Is it just early days? I hope so because this resource has huge potential.

The feature matrix is awesome.

All new site is now more compreensive, new comers and who is using old versions can clearly see why them should use Delphi/Rad Studio 2007.

Keep improving.

Noticed the new website, found it less garish (the old one hurt my eyes!), but a touch too "Borland" - in light of the sale, I find I can take that last fact with a large grain of salt!

The new delphi info page isn't too bad. I would move the feature matrix to full button status with Trial and Buy - when it comes to upgrading, that is the information I am after right after the trial version. I think others might agree if you ask them.

The feature matrix could probably benefit from some ajax - fold up the images by default, and only load it when someone unfolds them. It would make the page load faster to be sure. Oh, and you could have it as a single page instead of an index page that seems to lead to a single page that has everything on it (seems kinda klunky that way)

The feature drill down is the right idea, but it definitely feels like it could use more polish. Esp. from a company that creates ajax and php tools.

Congratulations, Nick. The only tools I like working with as much as Delphi are databases (and of course DB tools that make the job easier)! It's a great fit and I think this is going to work out well. Keep on making my development life easier and I'll keep on buying 'em!

Best wishes,

Nick. Thank you for the link about the roadmap. I was searching for it a couple of days ago but I could not locate it by myself.

Sorry for insisting with this offtopic, but do you have any more concrete time term: is it going be middle or end of 2008? Or maybe you may give a moth: September, November etc? I know that you may always change the release date. But what is the current estimation of the release date? In which month will it be released? We have a lot of customers asking us for Unicode support since a long time. So we are in a middle of the road right now: should we use third-party Unicode controls right now or should be wait until CodeGear releases Delphi 2008. With fist case we will have to do a double work: the fist we will integrate thirdparty Unicode controls, then after release of D2008 we should remove the controls and integrate native VCL controls. I always prefer to use native (original) VCL controls instead of thirdparty controls whenever it's possible. So I am waiting now for release of D2008.

Nick, I asked probably 3 times in forums and other places. But when Delphi 2008 will be finally released. Will it support fully Unicode (VCL, database layer and others) as it was promised. I hope this purchase of CodeGear by Embarcadero will not shift Delphi 2008 release date. Do you have any information about planned release date?

The first response I read this entry is NOW WHAT?
*Sigh*

Whatever happen to Delphi, I will use it as long as possible. But I keep learning new technologies like C# and Java. I think it is not wise just depending on one super tool / language.

Your enthusiasm gives me confidence. I work for a small company and have converted three small companies from Microsoft shops to Delphi shops through the demonstrable strength of the Delphi product over the negativity and marketing hype from the evil empire.

As someone who has been a huge supporter since Turbo Pascal v1 days I wish you guys the best of luck and hope that you keep standing up for the interests of long time users who have a considerable investment of time, money, and credibility in your products.

Geeze, even the re-edit is full of mistakes... "sentence", "took me"

Man... start your day by having to give your son the Heimlich maneuver (it ended well, oxygen for everyone!) and suddenly you completely forget how to spell and type.

I did **SEE** some of the screenshots, sorry, missing word totally screwed up the meaning of my last sentance. Accidently took my from passive viewer to a more involved role that just ain't so. I saw the screen shots, not took them. And here I thought I had paid more attention typing in that entry than normal

I've mentioned on another blog that I strongly suspect that the graph does not truely represent a move to unicode, but rather because of the strong relationship with the ascii curve, it more likely represents a strong move towards marking ascii based pages as utf-8, since if you stay in the 0..127 character range (99.9% of all english pages), they are identical. This is more a matter of making a page pass a "standards compliance test" rather than real adoption of unicode. Now a graph showing the number of pages that use two or more byte utf encoding from before and after showing a significant rise, that would impress me.

I can't resist, I just gotta suggest the tounge in cheek thought that Embarcadero bought CodeGear not for the products it sells, but because it's a cheap way to change their company name to something people can easily spell AND get the associated domain name!

I did some of the screenshots of the database modeling I've seen from Embarcadero - but then I got my first data modeling training in Oracle style diagrams...

Nick, I downloaded the trial edition of Delphi for PHP 2.0, and ran into immediate problems.
* When I dropped components (TButton, TLabel) on a form, the captions would not display.
* I couldn't get my first application to Run. I see on a CodeGear forum that others have this problem, too, but I didn't see a workable solution. Is FireFox a problem?
* The IDE is very slow. I read the explanation, but I'm not used to clicking on menus & components and having nothing happen for a couple of seconds.
* I couldn't exit from the IDE. I had to use the Task Mgr to exit.
* The debugger continued running after I terminated the IDE.

I guess I could try to reinstall, but this was not encouraging...

Wires are environmentally friendly. They don't need batteries. And they don't have dead zones.

Dear Nick,

I've sent you mail, please check it out and respond. Basically, I'm finding it hard to purchase Delphi 2007 - it is so ridiculous!

These are the kind of issues the new company needs to avoid.

@Mark:

Now, you can use the Mozilla Firefox ActiveX control. Read how at http://www.paranoia.clara.net/articles/taming_the_lizard_with_delphi.html

I'm fan of Delphi since the 1.0 version. I truly hope this can help take it to the next level. Here is a list of some things I would love to see in future Delphi releases:

- Cross-compiling (Windows/Mac OS X/Ubuntu, etc)
- Enhanced speed and stability
- 64-bit compiler
- Native XML parsing
- Alternative HTML engine components (Mozilla/Safari)

Good luck guys! :-)
