Commentor Bryan raises a good point in the comments of the Theming article below: If you are using the XPMan unit in your existing applications, you don’t need to anymore with Delphi 2007. Instead, remove the XPMan unit from your app entirely, and simply check the theming option in the Project […]

Check out how easy it is to add theming support to your VCL applications. One note: By default, new applications will be themed. Existing applications will not be themed unless you actively select the option for the project in the IDE.

Regular readers of this blog know that I have a hard time not commenting on just about everything Jeff Atwood blogs about on his Coding Horror blog. I have that blog in a folder called “Must Read Feeds” in FeedDemon, and I jump when I see he’s posted a new entry. Usually it’s something terribly […]

As part of my job, I have to communicate with people all over the world. Naturally, I have to be able to know what time it is in those disparate places, and so I tool the recommendation of a co-worker and started using WorkTime from PawPrint. It’s interface is a little goofy, but it does […]

I’m going Camtasia crazy today…. I’ve decided to start a new series of demos called “Two Minute Tutorials”. These will be short (less than two minutes. Camtasia demos that show off stuff about Delphi that you might not have known about or that you should know about. The first one is on Incremental Search. […]

Inspired by Steve Trefethen’s excellent blog post, “How to Install Components in the Delphi IDE,” I created a simple demo of installing a component in the IDE.

Hey, this is pretty cool. Seems that China has put on an Open Source Software Contest, and a Delphi/C++Builder toolkit won a prize: “Liu Xiao of CnPack won the gold prize in the professional group for his CnPack IDE Wizards (CnWizards), a free plug-in toolset for Delphi/C++ Builder to improve development efficiency. We haven’t done a Delphi Hour in a while. We had the release of Delphi 2007 which got in the way, then CodeRage, then CodeRage Redux, and now all the folks involved, including me, are going to be traveling a lot in the coming weeks, so we won’t have one this week, and I don’t […]

Jeff Atwood has another great post as usual. This one on Software Licensing. Software licenses are a necessary evil, as Jeff points out. They are also a terrific pain in the ass. Changing them is hard. Jeff also linked to the WTFPL. I laughed out loud. The FAQ is particularly funny. If there is a better […]

Hey, we have a new logo! I was worried that I wasn’t going to like it, but I really do. I like the colors and I like how it looks like it is crammed in a box and trying to burst out. I’ve also seen mockups of the all the stuff for it — stationary, business cards, […]

Folks are getting their downloaded version of Delphi 2007. Sweet. It’s really satisfying to work on a product and see folks using it. One of the things we worked hard on was making Delphi 2007 and your applications produced with it work on Windows Vista. Now, Vista is a different sort of operating system. […]

Okay — so I’m reading Steve Trefethen’s blog, and he links to what, in my personal opinion, is the greatest single title for a technical blog post ever — The Windows Shutdown Crapfest. Doesn’t get any better than that. So I read the thing, and it’s, well, amazing. They have a whole team of […]

There are few guys more old school than Randy Magruder. The ex-Borlander still uses the Brief keystroke bindings. We found out this week during CodeRage that he actually uses TD32 keybindings as well. Randy may be old-school, but he’s a pretty big Delphi supporter. That strong support never stops him from speaking his mind […]
