Cool Stuff with Delphi #13

16 Nov

Jeff Duntemann pointed to MozBackup, a cool little utility that backs up your Mozilla configuration.  Nice little utility.  But I read about it, and before I even look at it, I just know that it is written in Delphi.  And peer into it, and lo and behold, I’m correct.

Anyway, worth a look.

Almost all the software at CoffeeCup.com is written with Delphi.

Cobian Backup /the mother of all freeware backups/ is completly written in Delphi as well.

It is true Nick, there is usually a certain aura on Delphi created applications, that shines far away. Compact(*1), snappy(*1) and with well working GUIs. That are hallmarks of quality Delphi made apps.

With a little bit of savoir-faire you can practically sense a Delphi made app already at the point of installation.

If you go to a place like download.com and look at top-rated apps, with high ratings by editor or by users, about 1 in 5 will be a Delphi (or C++Builder) made app.

Delphi do well in shareware/shrinkwrapped apps made by small software shops. For apps made by bigger software development companies the chance of Delphi made apps is less.

(*1) Do not forget, even end users benefit from tight and fast code. More compiler optimisations please!
