Report from EKON 11 in Frankfurt
I’ve been at EKON this week — it was nice to see folks and to get in a few excellent technical sessions. Ray Konopka is here as he is every year and he did a great session on Parameterized Types. Holger Flick is doing a great job with ECO, and Hadi Hariri and Olaf Monien have been showing off VCL for the Web. Overall, there’s a lot of great
Marco Cantu is also here, and he reports that his new book is doing really well. I’m delighted to hear that. Marco was very gracious and gave me a signed copy of his book. It’s very nice, and looks just like a ‘real’ book. Because I guess it is. Print On Demand has really come a long way, to the point that I think it really is the future of book publishing. (By the way, I’ve been bugging Ray Konopka to join the lulu.com bandwagon and publish his component building book.)
I had a good dinner with a bunch of our loyal third-party vendors, and got some great feedback on what we can do with and for them. Our third-party vendors are the fuel that drives Delphi, and we are very interested in working closely with them. Guys like Hadi Hariri and Olaf Monien, Ray Konopka, and Bruno Fierens and others really do great work for us, and more importantly, for you guys, so it was good to have a chat with them and hear what they have to say.
Other stuff:
- Marco took a bunch of pictures at my opening keynote. Looks like I need to lose a little more weight. ;-)
- This is a really well run conference. The sessions are great, the food is great, and the venue very nice. My thanks go out to Masoud and his whole terrific team for being so great to me while I’ve been here.
- I am returning home from this trip with six more shirts than I started with. Next time I’m going to bring like one shirt, and just wear the new ones that I get.
- One of the good things about this trip has been learning how CodeGear "works" over here in Europe. Things are a bit different than back in the states. We partner with very strong companies like Better Office to sell and promote our products. These partners have some great programmers and consultants like Jeroen Plumiers and Dany Magin who really know their stuff. Our partners are key to what we do, and we have a pretty good group of partners over here. It was nice to meet and get to know them.

Great to hear about your experience at a European conference.
So when will CodeGear have one in the U.S. so you can get some in-person feedback from U.S. developers????
