Delphi in China
30 Apr
Hey, this is pretty cool. Seems that China has put on an Open Source Software Contest, and a Delphi/C++Builder toolkit won a prize:
“Liu Xiao of CnPack won the gold prize in the professional group for his CnPack IDE Wizards (CnWizards), a free plug-in toolset for Delphi/C++ Builder to improve development efficiency. Several Chinese programmers set up CnPack in 2002; it now has more than 200 members. Its most popular applications are CnPack Component Package, CnWizards, and CVSTracNT (based on D. Richard Hipp’s CVSTrac).“

One thing to note is that cnPack/cnWizards is the same group that used to have lots of pirated Delphi components/tools on their web site for download. The community got mad in the newsgroups*, and they eventually took them down. Of course, they claimed that someone was inappropriately using their server and they were against software piracy. Also of note is that they started the cnWizards project by taking the GExperts source code, inappropriately re-licensing the GExperts source under their own license, and changing all of the method/class names from Gx* to Cn*. In fairness, they have since corrected this problem and added lots more to cnWizards, but, that said, I still think it would be best if CodeGear employees wouldn’t promote the work of this group.

May 1st, 2007 at 7:57 pmCNWizards is currently one of the best Open Source add-ons for Delphi. I think this project is very much worth to be promoted.
May 1st, 2007 at 11:50 pmThe services and price of delphi is really very bad. It is not fair for the users who have bought Delphi.

May 2nd, 2007 at 5:38 amI am familiar with CnPack, Before 2005, CnPack’s web site had a anonymous ftp sever, and someone uploaded some pirated delphi tools, such as modelmaker.
GExperts License Agreement is in CnPack’s help file. Also you can found the unit notes as below in some units ported from GExperts:
