The Delphi Hour this week will be on Wednesday, 02 August 2006 at 05:00pm (that’s 1700 for you military types). We’re changing the time to be more friendly to you folks in the Asia/Pacific region. I don’t have a guest lined up (want to volunteer?), but if all we do is chat and take questions, […]

I am aware that commenting on this blog is not working for some of you using Internet Explorer. The reason I know this is because I can’t use IE to add comments to this blog. I’ve notified the powers that be about it, and hopefully something will happen. I seem to remember something like this […]

Wow — you don’t get mentioned in eWeek every day, er, week. Charlie Calvert has been assimilated. Charlie is one of the nicest guys in the whole world and I sure wish him well. I’ll just say that seeing Charlie work for Microsoft is a little like seeing the two dudes in Spy vs. […]

I’ll be on the radio again tomorrow at noon PST. Sorry that we haven’t done an Asia-friendly time yet. I’ll plan ahead a little better this week for next week. The chat listened to at this link. Go to http://chatjet.borland.com/event/login.html to join the chat questions room.

Congatulations go out to John Furlong for winning Sensible Post of the Week! Perhaps that’s because they have bought into the Microsoft "vision", due to a lack of critical thinking on their own part. It seems to me that if you look at Microsoft’s track record on development tools, database interfaces, API’s and so on, […]

Good or Bad? I tend to say bad. Seems sloppy to me. I don’t like sloppy. This is the story of my life here at DevCo. Here’s the Irritant of the Day: There is no easy way to tell where a document is located on your harddrive when it is open in Word. […]

Have you started being more careful about the subject lines that you put in your email? I know I have — mainly because I want my email’s subject line to be clear that it isn’t spam. I try to run quickly through my junk mail folder every morning, checking for false positives — email […]

I’m living out here in California and my family is back in Minnesota, and it looks like it is going to be that way. (Don’t ask, but it involves a kitchen remodel that is, well, taking a while…..) Anyway, we’ve been Skyping and IMing and all that, but I want to take the next […]

I’ve added a page to my blog that will keep track of the archives for The Delphi Hour. I’ll keep this updated with each new archived broadcast as they become available. Plus, I’ve added a link to the article on the menu at the left.

Corbin’s been busy taking pictures. Reminds me of this family. Is it just me? I seem to get a ton of "spam" emails that contain nothing but a "From:" address. Totally empty. Perhaps it is a SPAM engine gone bad? Gutsy move by Julian over at DevExpress. I’ve pretty much dumped Adobe’s PDF reader, […]

I’ll be doing another Delphi Show broadcast this week on Wednesday – same time as last week: 12:00pm PDT. This week I’ll have as a guest Mark Edington of the R&D Team. He’s “Mr. Quality”, and we’ll be talking about what he is up to. Plus there will news, questions, and the normal jocularity. So tune […]

Another boomerang has flown home. Yahoo Spam Count: 4207 Yesterday I complained that I can’t extend System.String because it is sealed. Well, a number of colleagues here pointed out that with Delphi, you can extend System.String via class helpers. I stand corrected. Short one, this time.

Borland set to sell IDE business I really can’t comment at this time about the specifics. I will say, however, that rumors very often are not true. I guess someone was interested after all.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the class as much as the next guy, but System.String is sealed. I hate that. What if I want to add some cool methods to it? I can’t. Bummer. Yahoo Spam Count: 3455 One thing I figured out this week is that Steve Shaughnessy is a really, really […]

But see, the thing is, it really isn’t a battle. Sure, there is tension there, but I don’t see it as a ‘fight to the death’ or anything. For me as the Delphi Product Manager, it seems manifestly evident that we have to support both contestants in this alleged “title fight”. We all here are […]

Yahoo Spam Count today: 1944 One of the mindsets that I have to fight against in this job is the “I don’t like/need/want it, therefore, it is a waste of time.“ I see this attitude a lot, and I suppose it is natural. Customers are only going to make a purchasing decision based on […]
