Take the Delphi Pubs Survey. (Click on the link at the top of the page) We are working hard to beef up the DevCo Documentation team that has been, well, treated less than well over the last few years. Please give us your constructive feedback so we can be sure to head in the right direction.

Jeff Atwood is exactly right. Initial estimates of a software project’s cost and duration are almost always wildly inaccurate. Realizing this is the first step to dealing with this intractable problem. I’m a firm believer that you can tell a lot about an organization by reading the Dilbert comics that are posted on the [...]

Why don’t laptops come in colors? Why are they all black and gray and dull-colored? Wouldn’t you like to have a lemon-yellow or candy-apple red laptop? I know I would. Keep your eyes open for a weekly Delphi podcast. We are looking at putting together something in the coming weeks. If you’ve got any [...]

One of my main jobs is to figure out what you guys want and need, and then figure out how to match up those wants and needs with what we can deliver in a product. It’s quite clear to me, both because of what you all say and from my experiences as a developer, that [...]

I am getting tons of spam that is undeliverable mail to some non-existent address at some random domain that lists me as the sender. I mean, tons of it. So much so that I can’t see if any of the emails I’m sending are getting sent back as undeliverable. I absolutely love Yahoo Launchcast. [...]

I think we’d all agree that the documentation for Delphi has been, well, problematic. Well, here’s your chance to do something about it. We have at least two technical writer positions open here in Scotts Valley. You can find them by searching here (sadly, I can’t provide a direct link to the page with the [...]

Every once and a while, Delphi pops up over at a the discussion boards on JoelOnSoftware. Here’s the latest. Interesting idea that he points out: that at the macro level, Delphi 1.0 pretty much had all the basics of today’s RAD tools and frameworks. I remember reading a “Mastering Teach Yourself C# in 15 Seconds [...]

Wow — Larry O’Brien noticed me. I’m flattered! I’ve read Larry for years, and have always respected his viewpoint. I’m honored to be mentioned on his blog. I think I’ve mentioned it before, but his “About Larry…” page is a frank, interesting read. I love the part that starts “I won’t work on a project [...]

I didn’t hear this Friday, but Allen blogged about it: Jens-Ole’ Lauridsen has returned to DevCo. You can read about who he is on Allen’s blog, but this is great news for JDatastore/NDatastore fans. As Allen points out, we’ll be figuring out what we might do with this new technology in the coming months. I’ve always been [...]

We’ve been releasing some hotfixes, and in general, this seems to be pretty well received. One, in particular, has been very well received — Hotfix 5. If you have been having trouble with slow switching between code and the designer, then you need Hotfix 5. Apparently it works wonders for this problem.
