CodeGear + Ruby on Rails = Sweet Sweet Relief

Had a chance to chat with Mike Pence from “Mike does Tech” yesterday and today his blog post sum’s up our ROR effort quite nicely. Mike’s blog is becomming a regular feed in the Ruby scene and I’m looking forward to Mike’s feedback on our Ruby on Rails IDE “that currently has no name“ - and certainly it’s secret code name is not “diamante rojo”

Hey Mike, we’re hooking you up with the beta tonite!

I am from chennai, India and deeply exploring the ROR (productivity, scripting reasons).

We Would Like to know how to register on beta testing for ROR from codegear. since we are porting our ERP/CRM product to Web. We chose ECOIII as a base but with ROR it will be smashing. We have an appreciation of ruby. Please let us know. We are already a SA Customer of Delphi Arch from 2005.

Sincerely, I hope CG shooting in so many directions (PHP, Ruby, etc) doesn’t compromise the quality of the major product (DELPHI). It took so long to have a nice and stable Delphi IDE again, that I’m really afraid that those new products would reduce the number of people working in Delphi (and resources invested as well) bringing the dark ages back :-(

I hope my fears do not become true.

I am very interested in Ruby! Will the IDE also allow creating "normal" desktop applications or is it RoR only (which as far as I know is a web platform)…?

    Best regards

    Daniel

Hi, I’ve sent your request to Joe McGlynn the product manager. We’ll be posting beta sign up information soon. Thanks for inquiring.

We’re doing both PHP and Ruby w/o impacting Delphi resources at all. That was a problem we had with Kylix, same development team spread across too many products meant either time or quality were compromised.

rich database driven Web apps ie Ajax

  7. LUIS MADALENO Says:

Lets hope that ROR IDE will not be like D4PHP. <br/> D4PHP simple is nothing. not even an editor. Simple things like "comment this…" it does not do. Like Carlos Cantu I also am afraid that Delphi 2005 days are back again.

  8. LUIS MADALENO Says:

Just to say something more. After the disaster of D2005, I am a happy D2006 user. But I will not upgrade to D2007. I am too affraid…

  9. Mark Tiede Says:

I hope that these new "non-Delphi language" products don’t leave me "wanting". For instance, I have JUST discovered ECO (now that I have a new machine that it can run well on). And I am excited to use that framework. But I hope competing technologies don’t mean that emphasis on ECO would be dropped. I would rather have new techologies embrace and extend the old ones. For instance, as Shankar said, his interest in Eco dropped when he can use ROR. And if the interest drops, development will probably lessen. If ROR USED Eco, then development on Eco would continue.
