RAD Studio & Software Archeology
After our 2nd webinar on Software Archeology using RAD Studio the response from the customers was very exciting. The customer’s that participated had great questions and seemed to get the incredible value and functionality RAD Studio brings to developers since the release of Delphi 7 and C++Builder 6.A few questions that were asked during the presentation were around support in what products:
- Is the concept of Software Archeology supported in C++Builder 2007? C++Builder 2007 and RAD Studio allows for UML visualization across all versions. However code Audits and Metrics and Profiling are not supported at this time. The new Unit Testing integration is a great add and really helps when looking at making changes to existing code. Documentation generation is available in the
Enterprise and above editions. Today the support is limited; I have added the request to add the needed features for parity.
- Can I create my own Documentation formats? Or in other words, can I customize or create documentation templates? The answer is Yes.
- In the case study, what kind of errors where found when the experts reviewed the source code? The review found some of the more common things that happen; the focus seemed to gravitate toward style and approach, rather than possible errors.
So overall the initial response from the RAD Studio webinars is a success. I would love to hear what other topics you would like to see covered in the coming months.
I’m working on a series of new webinars for RAD Studio including my Developers UML and How to Handle Multiple Databases.
I’m also working on new articles with
Delphi and will be posting them soon.
Happy Holidays,
Mike

Does archaeology reveal why a perfectly good help system from Delphi 7 was replaced with a useless, empty skeleton of topics in Delphi 2007 for Win32? It’s a question for archaeology like why did the Aztec culture disappear.

Just take a look at Doc-o-Matic Express, which is free and nice. I think in certain aspects this free tool beats Together in RAD Studio.

Steve and Li Yang…
I hope you have downloaded the new Help update from http://dn.codegear.com/article/37369 they do use Doc-o-Matic and they are focusing again on the things developers need like:
*improved coverage throughout the help
*a return of examples (more on that coming soon)
*improved indexing and table of contents.
*We’ve included the .Net SDK as part of the index
These are great steps forward and I agree that Doc-o-Matic is nice, the Documentation generation found in the UML integration is also very powerful.
