Free Camtasia download
Camtasia is one of the tools people use to create Developer Network "TV episodes". TechSmith is now offering Camtasia 3 as a free download. (Camtasia 5 is their latest version and has many nice improvements, but Camtasia 3 is still very capable.)
I discussed Camtasia way back when in this blog entry.
You can download the setup file from http://download.techsmith.com/camtasiastudio/enu/312/camtasiaf.exe.
One of the places to get the license file is http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia/pcpls.asp.

"Welcome to this exclusive offering for PC Plus Magazine readers from the United Kingdom"
Sounds like something I would not link to on a blog that is being read worldwide…

Holger, the link I provide is just one of many that gives the license. This offer is being provided by many vendors. I thought about this as well before posting the link. Thanks for being socially conscious.

Thierry, thanks for sharing the information on SnagIt. That’s my favorite screen capture tool.

John, that is indeed good to know. I was sceptical and as I know there are multiple free offers, I can use the free version now. Being a software developer yourself makes you think about things like that and I am sure you understand why I was hesitant.

This is really cool. I’ve been using version 2.x for sometime for my videos. I really should upgrade to version 5 but I’m cheap. I guess my next video will be using version 3

Me thinks TechSmith will enjoy a nice windfall from all of the new registered users.
Personally, I’m waiting for Tiburón… but if CodeGear had a similar 1/2 price upgrade offer for D007, like TechSmith, CodeGear would also have my upgrade $, like now.

Excellent. I just download this and SnagIT. Thanks, John.

You’re welcome, Trench.

Brilliant. Thanks for the find, John!!

Another thanks for the link John…
You can’t help but think that someone at TechSmith must have been to bitsdujour.com one day and thought, hmmm…
They will be more than likely recieving an order to upgrade to the latest version soon from me.
I’m still on TurboPro, holding out till Tiburón arrives… but if CodeGear had a similar, say "1/2 price end of year sale"… CodeGear would have my order for D007 and Tiburón.

This is *SO* cool! I have Snagit 8 and can’t do without it for snapshotting, but financial restrictions have prevented me so far from using Camtasia, so this is very good indeed…

I purchased Camtasia 5 shortly after it was released. Camtasia is an excellent product, and if you find it usefull I recommend purchasing a license to support the company that makes it. FYI, I am in no way affiliated with TechSmith.

Chris, I agree. Camtasia 5 has some significant improvements over Camtasia 3. We have upgraded our copies at CodeGear to Camtasia 5 as well.

Thanks for pointing this out. I’ve used Camtasia 5, and it is the best capturing tool I’ve ever used.

I downloaded SnagIt and it works fantastic for what I needed it for - so far.
I have been making screen shots of my front page to put on the old site with the redirect.
I used to have to do it in three-four
slices and then it took forever to get
it just right.
With SnagIt I was able to do it in ONE SHOT.
That to me, makes the program VERY NECESSARY. I wasted a great deal of time before with much frustration.
Thanks for allowing us to try it in its full version.
