MIT’s 2008 list of 10 emerging technologies

MIT’s Technology Review magazine presented it’s 2008 special report listing 10 emerging technologies "that we think are most likely to change the way we live".  Two, on the list, that I have been "jonesing" for are Offline Web Applications (I prefer the term Rich Internet Applications, or RIAs) and Wireless Power.

For RIAs, Technology Review highlights Kevin Lynch, Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Adobe’s Experience and Technology GroupTechnology Review includes a link to a video where Kevin talks about RIAs and the future of the Web.

The complete 2008 emerging technology list:

Offline Web Applications

Wireless Power

Probabilistic Chips

Modeling Surprise

NanoRadio

Atomic Magnetometers

Graphene Transistors

Connectomics

Reality Mining

Cellulolytic Enzymes

    Hi David I,
I do agree with big importance of web browser as a platform for executing applications that can operate offline.
    Check echo3

The demo application is really impressing with elegant transparancy and other sexy looks.

In fact Delphi web app could serve such a page:-)

What’s intriging is that echo3 aims at creating "the component-oriented and event-driven Echo JavaScript API."

    best regards, Pawel
