What do you want me to blog?

After writing entries for this blog (and the Sip from the Firehose series before we called them blogs) for a number of years, I am asking you tell suggest topic areas for me to blog. There are so many different topics I could blog about, but I also want to make sure that I write about things you want to read.  Here are some possible subject areas (in no particular order):

  • Concurrent programming, parallel programming models
  • Influential programming languages
  • Software Engineering best practices
  • Programming in the future - choose your horizon
  • Ajax
  • C++0x
  • Agile Development
  • Developer Hall of Fame
  • Software Archeology
  • Web Services

Do you have a different list? Send along your comments :)

    Hello David,

Talk about how C++ Builder is evolving. What work is being done to achieve 100%standard compliance? What new features are you working on?

    Many thanks.

I would like you to blog about Object Pascal and correct practices.. variable name rules, components name rules, flow control, etc.. I know there are many docs about this but I would like to know from first hand from a CodeGear Developer ;-).

More C++ Builder info would be great. Will there be a C++ Builder 2007 or do we have to wait for Highlander?

    My pick:

    - Software Engineering best practices

    - Agile Development

How do you develop software in CodeGear? How do you track progress of projects? How do you estimate? What do you do to raise quality of software? How to make developers most productive?

I work full time with development in Delphi. We are going to move from D7 to D2007 as soon as possible.

    My favorites are:

    - Software Engineering best practices

    - Unit testing with larger projects of legacy code

    - Refactoring with D2007

    - The future of model driven development for Delphi. We use Bold for Delphi now.

I would like to see infos about C++Builder status, what will be released when, will component/code compatibility be kept, etc., posted at least twice a year. Benefits for the customer: See that CodeGear is serious about the future of C++Builder, better plan update schedule timelines, getting the chance for feedback about planed features.

Also, postings about development best practices ant techniques as well as current and future development language discussions would be very welcome.

    David:

The rants and ravings of a "Santa Cruz hippie programmer" will do just fine. I read the article in the Sentinel and found it rather interesting.

Keep up the great work at CodeGear, and I look forward to reading more.

CodeRage was such a coderageous event, I can’t wait to CodeRage again.

Well, all of those topics you listed are interesting. I work mainly with C++ so I’d personally prefer a focus on that - eg C++0x, concurrent programming (though I’d be interested in plans for Delphi and C++ Builder in regard to that), best practices.

But it’s your blog… post whatever you feel like! I suspect I’ll find it interesting no matter what the topic is.

You should blog stuff you actually know. Less marketing hype and more down to earth topics would be a great start!

From the recent discussions (and maybe not so recent, as I’ve only been using the borland newsgroups for a few days), I’d say that one nice thing to blog about, either you or Ben or someone else that can properly explain, is this:

    - Why does SOX prevent CodeGear from publishing a Roadmap, while Microsoft does not seem to be affected by SOX for that?

I think that’s a question that is in many developers heads and should deserve a proper, clear answer.

I would have asked for C++ Builder 2007, but I have given up. After being a faithful user, ever since C++ Builder 1.0, I no longer believe the product is every getting the attention it deserves. Hitting a brick wall when upgrading to Vista did it for me. Just order Visual Studio. Waste of time as I will need to convert all my projects :(

Just wondering if you are going to put QuickReport back into C++?

    Thanks,

Talking more about c++, his evolving and new features.

    Thanks,

    Mauro
