Software Engineer tops Money Magazine’s 50 Best Jobs in the US…

The recent Money Magazine issue has an article that lists the 50 best jobs in the US.  The top job is something near and dear to my heart and soul - Software Engineer. To determine the top 50 best jobs, Money Magazine and Salary.com gave grades for stress, flexibility, creativity, and difficulty.   The research also considered average pay and 10-year job growth. The article listed Release Engineer as the top job in the Software Engineer field.  The article gave the following description for the job: "Computer software engineers apply the principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of the software and systems that enable computers to perform their many applications."

The same issue of Money Magazine also chose the person with the best job in America.  That person is Mark Dochtermann, 34, director of technology, Electronic Arts.

Tell us who is buying newCo?

I wish I could tell you who is investing in DevCo. But I can’t tell you any more that I have. We are moving forward on all fronts. When the deal is done, we will tell everyone.

I use my blog to talk about all sorts of topics related to developers and development, not just "DevCo".

In the meantime, we’ll be at JavaOne in San Francisco at booth #220, stop by if you are at the show.

I’ll be travelling in Europe doing the Delphi road show and giving customers a Borland and "DevCo" update.

Other events and tour stops are also coming up where you can visit with "DevCo" employees. Stay tuned to BDN for news and announcements.

He probably can’t tell us because they is no buyer! Whilst I wish Devco the best, this starts to sound like a broken record.

vistor: i think yer being rather unfair and very negative there.. more than likely "devco" isnt going to be announced until all negotiations are complete and "the deal is done". Its not a matter of someone saying to Borland "heres some cash, hand it over", theres lots of i’s to dot and t’s to cross and discussions to have. All of which takes time, so really this process hasnt been going on that long, so broken record? hardly.. and does it really matter (in the short term, say, the next 12 months) who the devco really is - until things are sorted I still have a product (Delphi 2006) which i love using, and which is being supported. Its hardly likely to stop working in the next year or two.

The saddest statistics i’ve ever saw…

IT professional is comparable to veterinarian! Any dumb physician makes more then programmer (as well may be dumb)…

Could you imagine that your dentist is studiing new technology every year or get certified every year? They learned their stuff once and for entire life. I understand that everything is changing in their area also, but not even close as fast as in IT.

And those guys never have deadlines! I have wait for month to show my son to a doctor! I need lost a day to go to a doctor, because they never work on weekends, or later then four or five.

And very often they are useless.

Sad! Sad! Sad! Chiropractor makes more than IT analyst! I’m crying out loud!

What surprised me the most in this list was the second place for college professors. Where I live college professors are very low paid, they begin teaching because they have failed to succeed in their career and usually they are out of step with the current trends. Sad but true - I have graduated from a technical university and everything I’ve learned is not due to the university but due to my own efforts to educate myself. So I really hope that it is not that way in other countries (and I guess it is not reading this list).
