Rik - as you can see, since August 23rd there is still work going on here in the Developer Tools Group. Since then we've shipped the Turbo editions, InterBase 2007 and more hot fixes for Developer Studio.

Our products and group are not dying off, they are thriving and moving forward. Stay tuned.

David I
'Thrilling' that we can only post our feelings and that nobody knows what will happen. Smart people will not wait until the development tool that they make a living with dies off and switch to another one in time or they'll die with it. SAD!

Look on the bright side! We'll be the COBOL-dudes of the 21st Century when all that Delphi code has to get ported to C#+++!

No, actually, this is a bizarre development. I'm glad I'm splitting my time between Delphi and LAMP and other stuff.

Especially worrisome for people like my current employer whose product is 100% Delphi (some of it was TP from before Delphi), and who has few resources for porting to another language.

093643 - did I win?

"Well everyone seems to forget the NEW customers who are no longer considering Borland IDE products as viable. If I were an IT manager looking to start a new big project, there's no way I'd choose any Borland product for it."

This statement shows that there are Delphi developers who are looking at the reality of business and this field in general. It's sad to see Delphi users respond with emotion than using plan and simple business facts. You have to look at it from a business perspective and when things change, you must move in accordance with those changes. Get off your emotional rollercoaster and just move on!

Well everyone seems to forget the NEW customers who are no longer considering Borland IDE products as viable. If I were an IT manager looking to start a new big project, there's no way I'd choose any Borland product for it. Regardless if its ALM or IDE. Just because they are openly stating to the world, "We really don't know what we are doing. Hey, this month let's try ALM and see if that works". The fact is that the way this was handled was ridiculous and a collosal mistake. I've shelved all my Delphi stuff now, and I am just working in Open Source tools. There's no point dealing with this dysfunction.

Good luck. You'll need it.

Borland: Get in contact with Google already! We need to get Delphi with Google ASAP so we can sleep easier at night.

Regards,

Adam.

> Sorry to see such a great product with an uncertain future. I will keep my eye on what’s happening with this product, but now must move on to Java & Eclipse

Take a look at recent news from javaOne about JBuilder 2007 and the future roadmap. You can still use JBuilder 2006 today, and we will have JBuilder on Eclipse for you this year. You will be able to move your projects over, and still do your Java work.

Borland Reassures the JBuilder Faithful

Computerwire/Datamonitor

May 18, 2006

http://www.computerwire.com/industries/research/?pid=0B1D6A5B-BA78-49BE-8A31-2C10518013EF

Borland unveils JBuilder roadmap

InfoWorld

May 17, 2006

http://weblog.infoworld.com/prodblog/archives/2006/05/borland_unveils.html

Borland Outlines Road Map for JBuilder

eWeek

May 16, 2006

http://www.eweek.com/article2/0%2C1895%2C1962966%2C00.asp

Borland Outlines Road Map for JBuilder

MONITOR Today

May 16, 2006

http://monitortoday.com/index.php?page=~~newsitems_62335
