Sip from the Firehose

Happy New Year to the Borland community.  Here we are at the start of another year full of fun, opportunities, and challenges.  While I was on my holiday break I had some time to get caught up on my reading.  An interesting “booklet” that I read was Bill “Swanson’s Unwritten Rules of Management”.  Bill Swanson is the Chairman and CEO of the Raytheon Company. You can order this insightful spiral bound book via the Internet. The book is free for individuals (a donation is requested to the MATHCOUNTS organization which promotes Math excellence for middle school students).

There are a lot of keen insights for managers and employees in Bill’s unwritten rules.  The rules are derived from years of lessons learned by Bill.

Bill also was the commencement speaker at the 2005 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo graduation ceremony. FYI, I graduated with a BS in Computer Science from Cal Poly in June 1973. A PDF with excerpts from the address is available online.
