I am in London now. I just arrived after visiting developers and press in Japan and India. It was great talking to wonderful developers about what Borland is doing this year and the coming years. Everywhere I go, I get asked the same, who has the best developers? The answer I give is always the same, there are great developers all over the world.
Software development is a unique endeavour. A single developer or a group can sit down and build the next top selling software package, next great game, next business productivity software program. Developers can collaborate around the world to solve interesting business problems. In this connected world and with great tooling from Borland, there are great developers everywhere.
In Japan I was also asked a wonderful question, “With all of the outsourcing going on in India and China, what is a student finishing school going to do for a job when he or she gets out?”. I have a simple answer, focus on innovation while you are still in college. We have not approached even a fraction of all the software that needs to be written in our world. Students should look at all the needs of business, of our world, and see what software hasn’t been written. Look at existing companies and new businesses and see what software can do to help them. Innovation is the key to moving our global economy forward, and software is at the center of it all.
Cheers from London!
