Computers in our shoes?

Back in May, Adidas announced it’s first intelligent shoe, called the “1”.  According to Adidas the shoe uses a microprocessor to provide intelligent cushioning by adjusting itself.  You can read the press announcement at http://www.adidas-salomon.com/en/news/archive/2004/2004_05_10.asp.

Gizmodo, the gadgets weblog, describes the shoe as having an intelligent sensor connected to a 20mhz microprocesser.  The shoes are priced at $250.  You can read some more at http://www.gizmodo.com/archives/adidas-1-selfadapting-shoes-015943.php.

The same blog entry reports that the Adidas 1 is not the first shoe with a processer.  The Raven ThinkShoe, by Vectrasense, uses Motorola DigitalDNA(tm), http://www.digitaldna.com/, and an inflatable bladder to make shoe changes depending on whether you are running, jogging, or walking.  Read more at http://www.technovelgy.com/ct/Science-Fiction-News.asp?NewsNum=123.  You’ll find technical information at the Vectrasense web site at http://www.vectrasense.com.

Happy walking, jogging, running, hopping, skipping, jumping, or whatever!
