Spyware legislation…

U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee approves spyware bill - bill would require software that collects personal information from computer users to notify them of its installation, get their consent before installation and provide users with easy uninstall options.  The Securely Protect Yourself Against Cyber Trespass Act , the SPY ACT (I wish I could always come up with TLA’s, in this case double TLA’s, like SPY ACT),  when passed, will allow for fines of up to $3 million. The bill now moves on to the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

It will not be enough to make new laws. There are some SPAM legislation, but we don’t have less SPAM in our mailboxes.

I hope that major companies like yahoo with its antispy soft and Microsoft which recently bought antispyware application will win this spyware war. And they will do better job to fight against spyware.

Spyware will continue to be present unless there is a drastic change in the mindset of perpetrators. Until then we have to hope for the best in anti-spyware software.
