Tiburon meeting

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

We had a good Tiburon field test meeting at the Developer Camp as well. Afterwards we went out to dinner and enjoyed awesome Japanese food and drink!

I swear it’s a total coincidence that all the distilled products are in front of me… :)

Developer Camp, Tokyo

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Fujii-san took this picture of my opening session at the 9th Developer Camp in Tokyo, Japan. I also had a session on Delphi for PHP version 2.0, as well as many press interviews over the last couple of days.

All in all, a fantastic event, and I’m honored to have been invited as the featured speaker.

Thanks Japan!

Monja Master!

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Fujii-san told me I am the first non-Japanese CodeGear person to dine on Monja.

But hey, why stop there? :)

Under Fujii-san’s expert supervision, I became the first non-Japanese CodeGear Monja Master.

Mal, you really need to try this stuff. It’s the bomb!

The Okonomi-Yaki was awesome too!

Fish Jerky!

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

I have arrived in Tokyo, for the 9th Developer Camp put on by the CodeGear Japan Team. It’s a customer event designed to provide updates and technical training for existing customers, as well as information to new prospects.

That’s awesome, but what do you mean by Fish Jerky?

As you may be able to tell, I’m sitting in a traditional Japanese restaurant eating a favorite food of mine, and since it’s dried fish we (Fujii-san, Yaegashi-san and myself) to call it "Fish Jerky".

OK, back to working on those slides…

CodeGear + Embarcadero = True

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

As I’m sure you’ve seen by now, Borland is selling CodeGear to Embarcadero for $23M in cash. Borland also gets to keep $7M in accounts receivables, so the whole package is about $30M.

We had a very upbeat company meeting today, where a lot of questions were answered, and it was clear that CodeGear’s leadership is very enthusiastic about this deal. There are a lot of synergies, and not a lot of overlap, and as others have said - once the deal closes (in 30-60 days) we can start doing things that none of us could have done on our own before.

SomeĀ  people have said that $30M is a chump change. Cough - I wish I had chump change in that case. ;)

One perspective you can put things is in relation to market caps. So, simply for the exercise of my brain, I noticed that the market cap of BORL as of the close today was $110M according to Yahoo Finance. Based on that number, the CodeGear deal valued at $30M would put us at about 27% of the total market cap. Not too bad at all if you think about it.

The future is bright - I’m convinced that all of our products will continue to grow and prosper under the Embarcadero name. Stay tuned for lots of new things over the coming months and years as well.
