Goals of the CodeGear docs team
I’ve recently been rolling out my plans to the CodeGear Engineering team and want to start sharing them with you. The docs team now has a few high-priority tactical goals and some strategic ones. Here’s our list:
Tactical
- RAD Studio content: restore and fill in missing content
- RAD Studio content: provide information to help new users get going
- Update mechanisms: use patch update, auto update, and Eclipse update
- Accessibility: put content on the web, using CDN article-style technology and PDFs for download
- InterBase content: fix doc bugs and provide notes for the service pack
- Agile doc development: sprinting along with the Ruby/Rails team
- Modularize content: flexibility for JBuilder releases
Strategic
- Managed collaborative documentation: wiki inside and out
- Team: add more technical skills to the team mix
- Productivity: automate, automate, automate
I’ll talk more about each one in future blogs. It sounds a bit dry right now but each of these projects will be very interesting!

That’s reaaly good that the Delphi docs is improving. Yesterday I search for documentation on TStringList and found almost nothing in D2007 help…
No examples or what the methods do.
Thanks to www.delphibasics.co.uk I managed it anyway!

Great Job Dee!. Never dreamt that delphi will ever have some meaningful documentation for a starter/novice. Most r&d Engineers are poor in documentation bcause they see code day in day out where as application engineers see the usage (how to use?)!!
I always thought you must know delphi to learn delphi.

>>RAD Studio content: provide information to help new users get going
This is very important and too late step.
also a lot of abandoned VBers want to move from VB to a better choise, but they didn’t find a lot of Delphi help. so they migrated to C#, C++ or Java.
I hope you release a white papers and tutorials to develop native application in Delphi for other developers who don’t know how much powerful is Delphi

Sorry, I can’t read here things like Delphi 7 Help style, chm help files, faster loading etc.
I fear that Codegear is riding on the slow and notworking MS-Help-Format 2.0 again. With useless .net, vsbasic etc contents.
I will remain on Delphi 7 as long as this point is fixed.

All nice ideas, but I am missing the most important one:
Getting rid of the 1 Gigabyte help viewer and all its dependencies which cause such a great amount of pain.
