My EclipseCon tour ended today

I talked a lot about it over the past couple of days, so I won’t spend a lot of time on it. I think I am about a week into this blog thing since my first post.  It is great opening up the communication channel with the development community but I am still working on how I want to approach this and well, what to talk about.

So today, we will try my favorite 5 quotes from meetings this week. All expletives and inappropriate references have been removed.

  1. As I walked into a meeting with one of my executives in Scotts Valley coming back from EclipseCon: “Oh my god, you’re back”
  2. In a different company’s board meeting with one of the more successful software executives in the valley as he was talking about sales guys and counting, “This is not that complex, you can count to 21 using your fingers and toes”
  3. From one of our competitors at EclipseCon, “Of course you can have a tee shirt, if I can have a twinkie”
  4. From a CodeGear person talking to the booth control people at EclipseCon, “Twinkies are not food, so this should not be a problem”
  5. From a press editor while watching David I explain JBuilder on Eclipse to a young developer “I have been watching David I leaning over like that and helping developers for over 20 years”.  My unsaid response, “I think I was in high school then writing basic on a TI 99 4/A”.

I am also going to try a little tag effort, asking a few people what their favorite 5 things are about the upcoming Delphi for Win32 Release.

My favorite things about Delphi for Win32 are:

  • I am not getting nailed for the name
  • Nick lost 30 pounds while building it.
  • Steve Todd tells me I should relax about it 2 times a day.
  • Swindell sends me another customer quote about it every hour.
  • Old Borlanders are talking about it.

Consider yourself tagged

All this hype about Delphi 2007, and it’s *still* not on the Delphi Roadmap (http://dn.codegear.com/article/33383). You guys are still promising to release a Delphi for .NET 2.0 sometime in 2006.

Your roadmap has been in desperate need of attention for a long time now. You can’t exactly say CodeGear is "where developers matter" if you won’t even tell developers that you’re not working on the product they’re waiting for.

  4. Leroy Casterline Says:

"TI 99/4A" - that fired up my wayback machine! In ‘80 I worked in a computer store. We sold (or at least had - I’m not sure we ever sold one) the TI 99/4. We also had a CompuColor and we did our bookkeeping on a NorthStar Horizon with a beautiful walnut case. Thanks for the memories!
